Nutrition for your Nervous System
This has been a whole area of unlearning for me. And I want to share with you what my body is communicating to me now.
When you eat for the nervous system, and for feeling safe in your body - from which your essence is then free of distorted survival patterns to shine through - everything gets reorganized.
You find that eating less - or less often - actually puts your body in fight or flight mode, and you no longer congratulate yourself on how little you ate that day.
You find that your brain, the operating system of the nervous system, actually thrives best on carbs.
You find that maintaining blood sugar levels by eating regularly is crucial to staying home in your body.
You find that when you aren’t hungry, a regular desire signal as important as libido - which INCREASES when you eat well, you are probably living off stress hormones rather than nutrients.
You find that you may even need to gain weight as your body reorganizes to its natural intelligence, from where it feels safe to communicate with you clearly again (we’ve been using the mind to tell her what to eat for so long, she doesn’t trust us so much).
This is the work of repairing a deeply fractured relationship.
And you find that nutrients in your food give you LIFE, so you just don’t want the fake s h i t.
You find that the sensuality of preparing your food and eating deliciously is as important for your complete nutrition as the food itself.
And, you find that these changes take time, and it’s all baby steps, because the nervous system likes things slowwww.
I tried making bone broth and it about collapsed me back into old ‘convenience, I just won’t eat’ ways, so I still buy my bone broth.
Having to plan out every meal for the week and spend more than 20 mins making it (or god forbid having to clean it up), completely shuts me down - so I use the training wheels of an all-natural meal delivery service.
I have found that each of my meals requires a delicious balance of carbs, fat, & protein, or my body detects a restriction that it uses a binge to correct.
I am 43 years old and only just learning how to truly feed myself.
